nos·tal·gia: a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time
The smell of leather always brings me back to my childhood summers spent dashing in and out of my uncle's workshop in Bosnia. My uncle is a saddler and even as a child I was fascinated by his work. I used to love watching him create custom made equipment for horses. When I would visit, he would take scrap pieces of leather and make me bracelets and necklaces to satisfy my desire to touch and feel everything. To this day I have those little keepsakes to remind me of long gone days.
Recently I visited my uncle in his workshop (now in Slovenia), where he spent the day making me a beautiful one-of-a-kind purse after I expressed interest in a prototype I found lying around. I know I'll cherish this for the rest of my life because there is nothing quite like having something made, especially for you, with loads of love.
With gratitude, Leila
