The Story: Quazi Design is a cutting edge craft company that transforms waste magazines into original accessories and interiors, believing that the combination of craftsmanship and innovation is a powerful tool to promote stability in the developing world. Their artisans are encouraged to be part of the product development process through design days and Quazi offers product development internships to designers wanting to learn and share skills in ethical design and are always open to collaborations.

Believing in the power of women to share skills and contribute to their household Quazi employs local woman artisans full time with permanent contracts giving them sustainable incomes. As well as their monthly salary Quazi enables them to have a safe and supportive working environment, assisting them in living an independent life where they are the decision makers. Their artisans are offered monthly clinics at the workshop and on-going counselling by a trained peer educator as well as social programmes. They assist in school fees savings schemes, where Quazi donates a percentage to each artisan. Most of their artisans were previously unemployed, and on average each has 7 dependents.

Their business model is built on sustainable design, a philosophy that combines the principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability. All products utilize 100% waste magazines sourced locally and each product is handmade at their workshop in Swaziland, Southern Africa. The workshop meets fair-labour standards, including fair wages, safe working conditions, job training, empowerment and transparency for our staff. Quazi Design are a member of the Fellowship 500, a platform for innovators in fashion and sustainability launched by the Ethical Fashion Forum.
