We named this bracelet the bomb bracelet, not only because it's created from upcycled planes and bombs dropped on Laos (the most heavily bombed country per capita in history)*, but also because the sale of this bracelet supports fairly paid artisans and their families, helps reduce poverty, and preserves traditional handicrafts.
We kinda think "you're the bomb" if you buy this bracelet because the purchase really does so much!
Size: diameter 6cm, 6.5cm or 7cm (please specify size in drop down menu above)
The Story: We source our bracelets from a fair trade social enterprise that works with over 400 handicraft artisans, mainly women, in 14 producer collectives. Artisans and groups build their own businesses, rather than work for a middleman, and their profits stay in their communities. This enables village based home production, reducing the rising trend of labour migration and resultant social issues of trafficking and prostitution. Artisans can choose their own hours allowing the flexibility to fit production in with the rhythm of their family and farming lives. The existing resource of talented artisans and crafts people is harnessed, helping them to move from subsistence production to more sustainable livelihoods. In addition artisans participate in: technical training, design advice and product development. Micro-loans are also available to initiate or expand production.
